While many of us have enjoyed Instagram over the years, at this stage it is becoming quite bloated. What started off as a great picture sharing app and balooned into copying Snapchat and now TikTok features into it. The new Instagram Reels feature is well, horrible.
The desing itself is bad, it takes up about 3/4 of my screen. As somebody who hated TikTok and has no plans to do it this is not good. I am no longer getting good content to look at. Because Instagram wants you to use it, theyre forcing it on you. There is no in app way to block Reels.
However, hope is not lost! As of today, you can uninstall Instagram and install the last version that did not support Reels.
On android this version is 152.0.0.25.117 and I am using it no issues. So yes, you can delete Instagram Reels!
Firstly, you have to enable unknown sources on Android.
- Go to Settings on your phone and switch to the “general” tab, if needed.
- Tap on the “Security” option.
- Tick the checkbox next to the “Unknown Sources” option.
- Confirm the warning message by tapping on “OK”.
Ok now that you have allowed 3rd party apps on Android, you can install the older version of Instagram, effectively deleting Instagram Reels
For Android Instagram version 152.0.0.25.117 has no Reels in it and I am currently using it. I am not sure if this works outside of the US. Possibly a VPN will work. If you have figured out a way outside of the use to remove Instagram Reels or delete Reels on Apple phones, email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. For reference, this is where I downloaded the version of instagram that I am using on my phone. I dont support files on that site and I am not responsible for errors!
